We recently attended the Lynsey Hanley talk in Bristol at Spike Island. The talk was really interesting especially as her book Estates has been a part of our research for our project Degeneration. Hanley talked about her experiences of growing up on a council estate on the edge of Birmingham called Chelmsley Wood.
Alex Currie has been selected for the Salon Photo Prize 2011, which is the inaugural photography exhibition produced by Matt Roberts Arts and is supported by 1000 words photography magazine. The exhibition will take place from the 4th of Feb -26th of Feb at Matt Roberts Art Project Space, Unit 1, 25 Vyner Street, London E2 9DG.

The workshop will run on the 11th and 12th of February in Derby and is open to anyone interested in photography from the local area.We will be producing new photographs in Derby to be included in our Degeneration project and the ‘The Flâneur‘ Collectives Encounter exhibition at Format Photography Festival 2011.
The first part of the workshop will be an evening presentation and discussion where we present our project Degeneration and talk about the research we have done and the areas we have photographed.
The following day will be a practice based workshop where we will get the participants to go out to a location in Derby with ourselves and make new pictures. We will look to make work with our Large Format cameras and will get participants to make there own photographs with digital cameras.
We will also be available to discuss our project Degeneration at the Collectives Encounter exhibition on 6th March during a guided tour of ‘The Flâneur’ exhibition.
We will also be giving talks and a conference discussing our work and experiences of making new work in Derby at various Art Venues and Universities, including Derby University.
